Stepping Stones continues to be one of the Society's significant success stories, providing care for 15 residents aged between 18 and 65 with physical disabilities.
The scheme strives to work with residents to help them to move out to their own accommodation in the community. Finding places for the residents to move to is always a challenge. However, in the last year two residents have moved to independent living.
Over the past 12 months residents have enjoyed holidays in Spain, Cyprus, Lanzarote, Portugal as well as many social events closer to home. The residents regularly go to the theatre, to see Plymouth Argyle and go dancing, and have been tending a local allotment.
In 2007 the home received a three star excellent report from the Commission for Social Care Inspectorate. The report spoke highly of Stepping Stones and identified no areas requiring improvement. Stepping Stones met 9 of the standards assessed and exceeded a further 18 which were rated as ’Commendable’. Despite this the management of Stepping Stones is constantly striving to improve the service to residents.
There is currently a vacancy at Stepping Stones which offers bedroom accommodation within the purpose built scheme or semi independent living in one of the three self contained one-bedroom units locted within the grounds of the main scheme. Short term respite care is also available. 24 hour support is available plus a wide range of activities and social events.
